Wales, NY is a small village located in the western part of Genesee County with a population of just over 2,400. It is a small and tight-knit community, and local politics are important to its citizens. Wales has been run by an elected mayor since its incorporation in 1852, and the village Board of Trustees works closely with the mayor to ensure all town business is conducted efficiently and ethically. The Board consists of five board members elected from the local population on a three-year term basis. The current mayor is David Young, who has held office since 2004. Regular Town Hall meetings are held monthly for locals to present their opinions and ideas to the Village Board. Locals also have the opportunity to become involved through voting in local elections or running for a seat on the board themselves. Wales prides itself on being an open and engaged community where people can express themselves freely while upholding democratic ideals.

R if the Republican Party candidate won, D if the Democratic Party candidate won and I if the Independent Party candidate won. The six elections (2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020) would be expressed as six-letter word (R R D R R).

Then we went a little further and added the dimension of magnitude. If the difference of victory was greater than 10 percent, the letter is upper case, and lower case if the difference was less than 10 percent. This allows us to see interesting voting patterns at just a glance.
